Tractor 1962 International Harvester 404
For sale is a 1962 International Harvester 404 tractor in very good condition. Serial number is 4106. 47 engine horsepower, 36 hp at the PTO. 4 forward gears, 1 reverse. Gasoline engine runs very well, idles smoothly at 600 rpm. Tires are 95% or better. Rear tires are made by Firestone. Seat has been recovered, and is in very good condition. 3pt lift works fine, but takes just a moment to engage. I have owned this tractor for about 10 years, and used it almost exclusively to mow a 3.5 acre field that I have. It has been very reliable and has given me little trouble. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Added 5/19/16: To answer a couple of questions – the engine does not smoke when running. There may be a small puff of blue smoke when cranked up, but there is no smoke when the engine is running. The oil does have to be topped off occasionally – I think it leaks a bit around the oil pan. The engine does run smoothly, even at low rpm. I added a pic of the dash. As you will note, the battery is larger than what is intended for the tractor. Only part of the original battery box is attached – I do not have the remaining panels. One of the black plastic battery boxes that are common today would fit nicely in this location. I have a brass cut-off valve mounted in the fuel line under the fuel tank. If I leave the valve open when not in use, the carburetor will flood. I don’t know why – I’ve adjusted the float, I’ve replaced the float and needle valve, and I’ve scratched my head. It still will flood if it sits. So I just turn the valve off, and the problem is solved. Please note that my trucks gets about 12 mpg (it’s a Ford F450).
